Hi Everyone, I just finished my White Tulip painting. It is 40 x 50 cm painted in acrylics as the others, and entitled: “Tulip Tranquility” :

I never thought of painting some white tulips and white can be a hard color to tackle, but I have to admit I am very pleased with the results. Thanks Tara, for suggesting this idea – I hope you like it!

Wishing you all a super Day !
Love Lisa

White Tulips - Almost Finished

Hi Everyone, Hope you all had a nice weekend. Ours was quite nice but of course the weather was lousy. The last time we had something that was like summer weather was 3 weeks ago. Oh well, nonetheless, we had our friends Line and Carsten over for a bbq on Saturday night to watch the bomb fires along the Bay here for Sankt Hans Dag (the witch burning tradition and summer solstice evening). It was a lovely evening and we snuggled up with lots of candles and blankets.

(Carsten, Andreas and Line)

(Some early fires starting)

Yesterday I had some errands to run and took a nice long bike ride. So today, I managed to finally work on my White Tulips and I am almost finished. I am pretty much wrapping up the painting now. I completed the leaves with: light green, lemon yellow, pathlo green and some Sap Green – wet in wet and some scrubbings:
And the vase with some tit-white, naples yellow, Prussian blue
The vase close up...I am very happy with it, but I might still add some more lights in the little flowers. This will all be done at the end with the last tweakings.

Next I will tackle the white tulips with tit-white, Prussian blue, paynes grey, and some turquoise….Wish me luck! I hate working with white.

Finished the white flowers and I am very happy with the results. Only the background left to do:

Stay tuned for the final painting. Wishing you a great day! and Happy painting and blogging!

White Tulips WIP

Hi everyone, I completed the drawing on my canavas now...(messy as usual-lol). But I am very happy with the composition and flower arrangement. Also did a quicky outline with some ink for my guidlines. Now I will begin to block in color for the background and other items. I am going to play around with some blue mixtures for the background. I am thinking very pale blue.

Blocked in a nice powdery blue for the background. Going to work on the greens now

Blocked in a few coats of green, Next the white of the flowers

Blocking in more color - white and some naples yellow

Andded some outline in prussian blue/Tit white for guidelines. Will add more coats of white to the flowers and some white scrubbings to the vase - some beige will show from beneath.

Okay, I am between 3 names for this painting. First was of course Tara's Tulips as she requested this painting idea as she wants to buy a print of it. And it is a sweet this title but Andreas says a more generic name would be better for a broader audience. So given this,I thought about Country Classic, Country Romance, and Classic White...and Andreas wants "Classic White"...Wondering what you think... naming painting is quite hard but very important to me.

New Floral Request

My sister's best friend Tara is a very big fan of my funky florals and has been ordering prints on canvas (giclees) for her new home. She recently purchased country blues and loves the whole town and country style and made a request that I do some white tulips. I am very touched by her recent purchase and all her kind words about my paintings, so I have decided to do a painting of white tulips in my new country pitcher for her decor. This painting will have a very similar color theme as my "Country Blues" Painting. It will be the same size as the rest of the series and done in acyrlics.

So I came up with this fast sketch this morning..but I will make the beige way more subtle for the painting. I did not have a good pastel color for this and it is far too dark on the sketch. I am also not sure about that one tulip leaning over the pot like that. What do you think? I think I need another, but I dont want to have two leaning over on both sides....like my past tulip painting "Dutch Delight". I want this one to be sort of different. I will also have less leaves.

So here's the rough sketch and I mean rough..LOL

Also a pic of my blue/light beige country I will be using as a base for my idea.

So I just got an email from Tara about the new idea and she wrote me a very sweet email and loves the painting idea and the floral bulb hanging out on one side:
Here is her email:

"Hey Lisa, I LOVE IT!!!!!!! You couldn't have painted it better than what I had imagined in my own head. I really really love it. Thanks so much for thinking of me and painting this for me.
I think you are right, the beige is a bit too dark but I do like the flower hanging over the edge like that. I can't wait to see the finished product.I can't tell you how much I appreciate you doing this for me, it really means alot. I can't wait to have them all hanging in my kitchen!"

Hometown Festival - Finished

Hi Everyone, I just finished the painting. I think it’s is an interesting composition full of vibrant color and I enjoyed taking a break from the florals and painting this one very much.

This painting is sentimental to me as I am often homesick. It reflects the colorful homes and harbours found in our beautiful Eastern Canada provinces and in the Maine, New England areas. I spent many vacations with my family in these beautiful quarters and there is something so heart warming about the architecture, harbours, the many seaside shops, cafes, and restaurants; and of course the beautiful ocean and all the fishing boats and seagulls. It reminds me of summer and the way it should be. Wishing you all a super Day and beautiful summer vacations where ever you may go!

Hmm. I think I will add a little touch of lights in the windows

Hometown - Update

Hi everyone, I have been a little neglectful with my recent wip. Anyways, I have still been working on my project quite a bit. So here is a little update of where I am now. Still lots more to do, but I slowly see it coming together. I find it has a "Fisher price toy land" feel to it. (mmm..sorry the pic is a bit slanted)

Finished the sky and began doing some light outlining in paynes grey. I am starting to see thing come together now.

Hometown Festival - Continues

Hi Everyone, I took a break from painting over the weekend and manged to do some work today on my painting. I pretty much blocked in most of the colors for the buildings and boats. I need to do another coat on some color for roof tops, then I can began with the fun part where I will start to see the painting come alive!

Blocking in some paynes grey for roof and window outlines. blahh..this is turning out to be lots more work then I imagined....I think I will take a break as I am getting a little fed up right now! everything seems on a slant..bleeding easel is off...Have to go check my lines...

Weekend Update - Beautiful Weather

Hi everyone, hope you all had a lovely weekend. I spent my weekend fixing up my deck for summer. The weather was so hot and beautiful here. I also went swimming for the first time in the bay and it was just fantastic. Still cool but so refreshing on these hot days we have been having.

I also did lots of cooking and bought a few interesting things: Two beautiful milk jugs and filled them with flowers (a new idea for my funky florals soon) and I also got two lovely - wood Thai Style candle holders for the deck.

Hometown Festival - New WIP

Hi Everyone, Well I am back at the easel..LOL with something New.
I wanted to paint another travel scene after the two florals I just completed. I wanted a quaint village harbour scene during a festival. At first I was going to do Itlian type buildings, but I have done so many of those so I decided to do the lovely, heart warming architecture-buildings of Easten Canada / Halifax, lunenberg - Nova scotia and same sort of style in New England - Maine, area.

The painting will be entited "Hometown Festival" and will be done on a 60 x 80 cm canvas and will deptict a lovely villge harbour scene during lobster festivals with lots of bright colors, flats, the sun and some adorable fishing boats.

So here is my very rough sketch - from my imagation.

And my drawing on canvas which is basically very much like the sketch with a few more refinements. I am off to block in some color now. Wishing you a great TGIF!

I Blocked in some color very loosely. I was too tired and I did not manage to finish all the blocking.

So I Did a color test - for different ideas - I think I will remove orange and put with a very light green - as in real life I did not see any orange buildings.

Lotus WIP - Wrapping up

Hi Everyone, I was up again very early after a good nights sleep.
Re: my post yesterday evening: I fixed the old Lotus - which was exactly more like a water lily.
I am now going to do the greens for the leaves, pads, pods, stems.
HOLD THE PRESS! Crappers...I see..now mabye too much space on the (left????) more petals...I am getting frustrated..LOL
Okay, being the perfectionist that I am, I went and made the one that was bugging me fuller to fill more of the space....Okay finally on to the greens!

Anways..here is the latest update of my lotus bliss project. I have almost completed the leaves. I am very happy with the results. Now I will be working on the flowers.

Andy has the day off today..Constitution day..here in DK. So after his little exercise and shower he wanted to see how his little painter works…he wanted to try adding some lights on darks…to see what painting was like. We had a good laugh. He said its not really for him. He said…it is a very long job..LOL and you have to have it in your blood to be an artiste!

So here are some pics for your viewing.

Phew...Almost done with the flowers...What a job!!!. Working with pinks and reds I find to be the most difficult colors....sometimes with wet on wet - the pink became almost muddy. I basically only used Quinacriodone Magenta and Tit white. Any other pinks did not give me the color I wanted. I will need to lighten up the top flowers a bit more. I will look at the end as a whole. I think I will be done with the painting tomorrow. Stay tuned for the final painting. Have a great evening.

Lotus WIP - Moving Along

My progress - End of the Day:

Well, I am seeing it come together now. Did some outlining with paynes grey and added veins on leaves and the flowers. I will now begin the fun part tommorrow where I play with all my values!

I am bushed. It has been a long day man! Working this large takes so much time. I worked all day with a big brush # 15 and a no. 3 for outlining...So much longer then my florals on 40 x 50 cm canvas.

I am happy with where its going! I am already excited to see it finished....

EDIT: The top flower - viewers Left - Is not really a lotus...its more like a water lilly...so I just realized that..and she will be getting changed to more of a lotus shape....Andreas also pointed out the stem just stops there behind the pad...so I will continue it down to the bottom.....He has good eyes..that hubby of mine. This will be done tomorrow...too exhausted...Have a great night!

his mornings work:
Hi everyone, hope you had a great weekend. Our was quiet and relaxing with lots of bbqs...LOL.

I was up really early this morning and quite excited to begin work on my Lotus Bliss painting

So I drew the drawing on my canvas...Boy it was hard trying to copy your own sketch..LOL. And the size is 60 x 80 cm...big for me. I also bought a nice sliver weathered wood frame to go with the painting.

Then I blocked in some nice tourquise color mix for the background. Outlined in some ink on the drawing for guidance.

Blocked in color for the leaves, stems - lots of pathlo green and cad. yellow med.

Blocked in the pink now on the flowers..i went over my lines..oh well I will redefine..them.

Next an outline..in paynes grey, then I will work on the leaves...with lights and darks and modeling work. Then the flowers.

New Painting Idea - Lotus Bliss

Hi eveyrone, well I was up really early this morning and feeling very creative. So I started work on my next project. I have wanted a long time to paint lotus flowers. I just love these flowers.

I will do this painting on a big canvas either 50 x 70 or 60 x80 and paint in portrait position.I am not sure yet about the size. Anyways, It will be all pinks and greens and some sea green for the background. There will be no vase – I will go wild on this one…LOL filling up the entire canvas with color and shape.

So here is my rough sketch for my next painting done in wax pastels. I was limited for pinks. It is from my imagination. Painting will be called “Lotus Bliss” and I will have more dramatic pinks with my paints.

Wondering what you think of the idea. Andreas loves it!
Have a great Saturday. I am off to shower and then hit the art shop..I need some more paints..running low and we will do some other shopping!

Lousy grey rainy, cold weather here today
