Painting the Roses - Continues

Hi Everyone, Hope you had a wonderful weekend! Ours sucked..LOL. Terrible weather and not much to do on those wet days. Basically did some house work and organizing. My highlight was my homemade spinach canelloni on Saturday night with a bottle of wine! LOL

Up early this morning, I started some work on my rose painting. My drawing on canvas and then I blocked in lots of colour. (permanent rose/white - pathlo green/yellow) I will add another coat and then start the modeling work. I think this one is going to go quickly!

Wrapping up the painting now. I completley whited out my flowers this morning. I was not happy with my weird pink. It was making it look way to flourscent... (you can see here). I wanted more of a dusty rose (antique looking). I tell you, I have been quite stressed with these pinks and the roses.
So Here is where I am now: Red did the pink, completed leaves and pail (very happy with my pail). And I have begun my outlining. I will do some tweaking and then the background. (my pictures are not turning out too good and reflecting my nice new pink--will have to get a good shot outside) Stay tuned for the final painting. Hopefully today!

Sensational Sydney - Making Me Sales!

Woohoo, I just checked my CafePress sales report (which I havent checken in ages) and to my surprise I have sold many posters and t-shirts of my Senational Sydney Painting!

This painting resides in New South Wales with my very talented mate Kim Barker, award winning portrait artist. We did a wonderful painting exchange a few months back where I painted this one and another for Kim and she painted two amazing portraits of me and my hubby. (you can see the amazing portraits right here on the link side of my studio blog)

Illustration Friday - "Moon" Theme

The theme for Illustration Friday is "Moon". So I decided to submit one of my paintings and I was browsing my art work and I noticed that many of my paintings had a moon or sun in the composition. So I decided on one of my older works: “Midnight Geisha” with a nice big full moon in painting.

La Vie en Rose - a new painting Idea

Hi Everyone, Well it is supposed to rain this afternoon--AGAIN!!!!, so I thought I would start a new painting, so I was up really early this morning and worked on some sketches for my next painting project.

So I came up with this idea from my imagination….and I thought I would share it with you. It’s Roses in a country – galvanized white pail – “French country chic style” with a romantic flare. It is something different then my last paintings, but I think its stylish and romantic and I want to make a “French Country style” guest room…when we finally have our own home..LOL and I think it will be a great addition. Andreas was laughing, and he said the painting idea/sketch is very feminine but he loved it!

The painting will be entitled “La Vie en Rose”

Zinnia Fiesta "Finished"

Hi Everyone, Hope you all had a wonderful week. We had some lousy weather the entire week. It even hailed today! Anyways, it gave me time to finish my zinnia flower painting.

The painting is 40 x 50 cm painted done in acrylics and is entitled: “Zinnia Fiesta”.

I think this is one of my favourites. I love the colors and the vase. I agree with Kim and think it does have an art deco (which I love) feel to it. While I was painting this I was listening to my favourite Latin music “the buena vista social club”.

Wishing you all a super Day! And a wonderful weekend
Love Lisa

Zinnia - Wrapping it up

Hi Everyone, I am just about finished my zinnia floral painting. Lots of work on the flowers. I used the following colors for my florals: cad yellow-- dark, medium, and light, crismon red, cand red light, permanent violet and white and a little rose madder.
I will begin work on my background now and then I will do my last touches of tweaking around the middles and the vase. I think I should be finished today.

Zinnias Moving Along

Hi Everyone, Lousy weather here, spending lots of time in the Studio. I managed to get quite a bit of work done on my zinnias. Blocking in lots of nice juicy colour. Note: The pink shown here is just the first coat with lots of white mix. The pink flowers will be much darker "hot pink" and more a magenta colour. I find adding white to the base coat, just absorbs and saves paint for very translucent colours like magenta.

Blocking in lots more color for the vase and another coat on the flowers. Will now do an outline to define the petals and begin some modeling work. It's slowly coming together.

Finished my outline in some paynes grey. It was very long task and my eyes are pretty much bugged out. But I am very happy how it is progressing so far. The vase is pretty much finished - except for a bit of lights and darks. Tomorrow, I will work on my flower petals adding in some contrasts, do the centres and finish my leaves. I thought I would finish today but I am bushed. I have worked on this for about 7 hours now. Calling it a day! Have a great day everyone!

Hello everyone, I am really delighted to announce that I was selected as one of the featured painters at Dezine Design, a wonderful Design Site with great animal designs and also helping out very creative artists without any computer/internet access.

New Frames & Other Stuff

Hi everyone, I got back 3 of my paintings framed yesterday and I am very pleased with the results. I framed my Hometown Festival in a nice weathered/silver box wood frame. (However the color is not really coming up so well as the weather is cold and grey here again). This one matches all my other ones (portofino, nyhavn, etc).

The one I am very thrilled about is my Lotus Bliss painting. I chose a chocolate wood – sort of Thai style frame for this painting. I am thinking the rest of my florals will look good with this frame but 1 inch smaller. The Frame store is going to inquire from their supplier if they can obtain this size for the frame.

I also framed the little ballerina in a goldish weathered box wood frame. But she is wrapped up. I am keeping it that way to bring to canada to give to as a gift to my lovely mom who loves this painting.

Also here are two of my favourite books. My Color Bibles..LOL.

Okay I am off to work on my Zinnia painting. Yesterday I took a break and worked on a painting for my sister’s stag. I wanted to make a cute bride to be painting for a tshirt she can wear at her bachelorette in September. So here you can see the painting I did for the front and back of the shirt.

And I published and customized with some wording the paintings at Zazzle. You can see the finished T-shirt here:

Zinnia Wip

Hi everyone, hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Our weather was just awful this--lots of rain, wind and cold. But it was very relaxing and we watched quite a few movies and just kicked back.

However, on Friday night, we managed to get a bit of sun around happy hour and it was just wonderful! Later that night, I managed to take this picture of the beautiful Sunset.

This morning I finally got back to my studio and started work on my Zinnia painting.

My "messy" drawing on canvas... Not too worried about that, as I can fix the petals later. I will now begin to block in the background color. I am thinking light green.

Back from Lubeck - Back to Work

Hi everyone, I am back in Copenhagen and I had a really nice little trip to Lubeck, Germany.

It was a relaxing break from painting and the daily routine. We really enjoyed this little picturesque city near the East Baltic Sea. We stayed at the SAS Radisson along the canal and had a wonderful view from our hotel room.

Despite the weather being pretty lousy, we had a great time. We took a boat tour, explored pretty much every inch of this charming city and ate some wonderful food and did a bit of shopping. The marzipan store was wonderful to visit and Andreas loves it, so he bought quite a bit of this sweet German Treat.

A few pictures from our little getaway:

New Flower Project - Zinnias

Hi Everyone, I have been searching flower sites trying to come up for an idea for my next floral painting and I have decided on the beautiful Zinnia flower. These flowers orginate from Mexico and our similar to sunflowers and Gerbera daisies. They have beautiful colors ranging from bright orange, vibrant, dark reds, dark pinks and bright yellows. I am going to paint them in a Mexican style pot.

There will be lots of color going on this one. A fiesta of color and the painting will be entitled "Zinnia Fiesta"!

So here is my very rough sketch of the new idea.

I will not be able to start any work on my painting as Andreas and I have decided to hit the road tomorrow and drive to Luebeck, Germany for a few days.
It will be really nice to get away on a mini vacation. Hoping we have some better weather as the weather is the absolute pitts here!

We will be back on Saturday late afternoon. See you all soon and have a wonderful upcoming weekend!

WOW, What an honour! I have received a Schmooze award from the very talented, award winning portrait artist, Kim Barker at Laketrees Blank Canvas.

This is what she wrote about me:

Lisa at Lisa Lorenz Studio Blog ......is the sunniest...friendliest....and most loyal friend ...she is a talented artist who paints beautiful ...colourful.....paintings....and she visits me here ...rain ...hail ...or shine....to leave her rainbow comments......she has achieved much in the blogging world and is recognized by the top art sites as a very successful artist...

I am very touched and thrilled! Thanks so much Kim! You have my day on this very rainy, stormy day!

Pansy WIP

Hi everyone, Still getting over my high from yesterday! I have done quite a bit of work on my new pansy painting.

Drawing on canvas and background blocked in (light green/tit white)

Blocked in basic colors for the flowers and leaves. Will now block in the colors for the vase. The painting is progressing well. At the moment I am not sure about those two pansy flowers at the bottom??? I think I might not include them, although many of my florals do have some flowers/petals on the bottom part of the composition. If I make them larger they will compete with the beautiful vase. The do seem lost down there.

Okay those flowers are nixed!

Oh and my new chair is just super, it’s very comfortable and I can roll around my studio!

Today is also my hubby’s birthday! Poor guy he has to work late tonight so we wont be going out to eat so I will make him one of his favourite meals. Pork tenderloin in a mushroom cream sauce over egg noodles and bubbly for sure! Tomorrow night we will go out and try out luck at the casino!
Have a great day everyone!

New Painting Idea for Pansies

Hi everyone, well I started some work today for my next funky floral painting and its all about pansies!

I was thinking of one color initially for the flowers, but my imagination got the best of me and I decided on many different colors for the pansies.

I am going to use my little Hungarian vase I recently bought in Budapest for the painting. However, I am not going to do it with the handle showing as seen here, as I have completed several paintings like this already (re: the pitchers). So I turned it frontal.....

And this is the perspective I will be using for the painting:

Then I very roughly, and I mean roughly did a fast sketch to put my idea down on paper:

Then I did my sketch which I will use as the basis for my painting. It was somewhat difficult to do because I had to just rely on my imagination for the placement of the pansies as I don’t have any good pics of a bouquet of pansies or any real life ones. I could not find any.

So here is my idea/sketch in color for the basis of my painting. Looking now at the sketch on screen I will add another yellow floral --so the light purple one next to the blue one (viewer’s right) will be predominately yellow with some magenta highlights.

I would appreciate any comments you may have. I will soon begin the drawing on the canvas. Wishing you a great day! and happy painting or holidays whatever you may be doing!
